COVID - Quanquan Gu, PhD - Learning Epidemic Models for COVID-19

Dr. Quanquan Gu, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Statistical Machine Learning Lab at UCLA, is leading a project to generate predictive models to combat COVID-19.

The project applies machine learning to COVID-19 data to understand the spread and impact of the virus. UCLA-SuEIR, one of the models developed by the team, is being used as one of the models by the CDC to predict number of COVID-19 confirmed case, and to forecast the peak infection and death dates at national, state and county levels in the US. The goal of this project is to better facilitate informed decisions by policy makers and to better allocate medical resources.
